On Netflix, hardly any movie stays at number 1 in the top 10 for a week. This time it’s the action movie Sisu. The new number 1 could hardly be more different.
The audience is slowly getting into the Christmas spirit, at least when it comes to the most popular films on the Netflix streaming service. For a few days, the top spot was held by the rough action thriller Sisu, in which a one-man army à la Rambo has to defend himself against a bunch of soldiers. However, the Finnish film did not manage to stay at the top for long (although Sisu deserves a place on the podium).
According to Flixpatrol, a new title is at the top of the film charts in 43 countries, and it offers an absolute contrast in terms of mood. Meet Me Next Christmas is a cozy Christmas comedy with a romantic musical twist.
The new Netflix hit is about a race against time
The main character, Layla (Christina Milian), is a great romantic. She meets a stranger (Kofi Siriboe) in a snowstorm and their chemistry is undeniable. The only problem is that Layla is still in a relationship. So they make a pact: if they are both single in a year, they will meet again at a concert by the a cappella group Pentatonix. Twelve months later, Layla is indeed single again – but the concert is sold out. Together with the concierge Teddy (Devale Ellis), she sets out to find tickets. A race against time begins – with all the signs of a love triangle.

Pop star and actress Christina Milian, who has specialized in romantic comedies in recent years, plays the role of Layla. So far, the reviews of the film have been mixed. The Guardian says:
Milian is charming and has good chemistry with Ellis, even though their movie often feels less like a rom-com and more like a weird Pentatonix commercial or a dangerous Pentatonix drinking game (a shot of eggnog every time someone says Pentatonix will kill you before Christmas).
If you’re not in the holiday or rom-com mood yet, Sisu is worth checking out. The Finnish thriller impresses with sparse dialogue, a minimalist revenge story, and creative action sequences.
