The new series version of a teen thriller from 1999 has just stormed the Amazon charts worldwide. Prepare yourself for perfidious intrigue within the wealthy college elite.
Series fans apparently can’t get enough of the everyday lives of wealthy teenagers. Following the German Amazon Prime hit Maxton Hall, the streaming provider recently released the coming-of-age thriller series Cruel Intentions. It is based on the 1999 film of the same name, which in turn is a modern adaptation of the French novel Dangerous Liaisons from 1782.
The new series is a mega-hit. According to Flixpatrol, the production is number one in Prime’s series charts in 38 countries. In Germany, it is currently ranked number four.

In the series, step-siblings Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess) are at the top of the social ladder at an elite college in Washington, D.C. When a campus rite of passage escalates, their reputation is at stake. To avoid losing their status, they must win over the daughter of the US Vice President, Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith). To do that, they come up with a seductively devious master plan.

25 years ago, director Roger Kumble filmed this story with the then mega-stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Ryan Phillippe (I know what you did last summer) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies). At the time, the 1999 version made headlines with a kissing scene between Gellar and Selma Blair (Hellboy), among other things, and became a cult film, especially among a younger target group.

Where can you stream the 1999 Cruel Intentions movie?
The film version of the story is not currently available to stream in the flat rate. Digital rental or purchase options are also not currently available.
