The thriller series Black Doves with Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw is not over after six episodes. But when will Season 2 be released on Netflix?
It’s a relief to be able to watch a new Netflix series without having to worry about the next disappointing cancellation. This is at least the case with the espionage thriller Black Doves with Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, whose continuation was secured before the start. But what happens to spy Helen and trigger man Sam? And when could season 2 be released? We’ve put together the most important information for you.
When will Black Doves season 2 start on Netflix?
Although the renewal of Black Doves for season 2 has been known since August 2024, there is a small setback. So far, production of the new episodes has not yet begun and shooting is not expected to start until early 2025.
The production of the first season lasted about four months. So with a bit of luck, season 2 of the espionage thriller could still be released on Netflix at the end of 2025. Realistically, though, a 2026 start date seems more likely.
What’s next? Black Doves Season 2 leaves Christmas behind
Spoiler alert: In the season 1 finale, the two biggest mysteries came to a conclusion. Helen was able to track down the murderer of her lover Jason, the truth about the death of the Chinese ambassador was revealed, and numerous people lost their lives. However, Minister Wallace Webb still has no idea that his wife is actually a spy and has been living a lie in front of him for 10 years.
It is not yet known how exactly things will continue for Helen and her best friend (and contract killer) Sam. However, series creator Joe Barton has already promised a big change for the series in season 2 in an interview with Netflix:
I’m looking forward to seeing them in the spring or summer, outside of the Christmas season! I have a lot of ideas, different spies that might be out there, different things they would do. We’ve only just scratched the surface of all these characters.
With that, Black Doves will say goodbye to the festive Christmas spirit in season 2. This was even prepared in episode 6: Reed already has reliable information that the current Prime Minister will resign next spring and Wallace will move into 10 Downing Street as his successor. Helen thus remains an important asset for the Black Doves and has to continue playing her role.
