As the title character in The Grinch, Jim Carrey lent his face to a gloriously nasty Christmas classic. The star would like to see a sequel, but only with one change.
During the Christmas season, The Grinch, a delightfully nasty classic of the genre, is currently appearing again and again in Netflix’s top 10. This has no doubt led many fans to wonder why there has never been a sequel.
Recently, lead actor Jim Carrey addressed this very question and revealed under what condition he would be willing to play the Christmas-hating, green goblin again.
Jim Carrey would do The Grinch 2 if he could play the character differently
In a recent interview with Comic Book on the occasion of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Carrey said that he would only play the Grinch again without having to apply large amounts of make-up:
Oh God, you know, if we could pull off the Grinch. The thing about it is that I did it with a lot of make-up and could hardly breathe. It was an extremely torturous process.
The kids were on my mind the whole time. ‘It’s for the kids.’ It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now with motion capture and things like that, I might have the freedom to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.

In the motion capture process, the movements of stars in special full-body suits are recorded in front of blue screens using markers and then transferred to a digital model.
You can currently stream the first Grinch movie with Carrey in a Netflix subscription. The newer animated version of The Grinch from 2018 is also available here. Otherwise, the Carrey version is also available on Amazon Prime and Sky’s WOW in the flat rate.
