The video game adaptation of this massive adventure film split the critics. But it made the box office ring. The blockbuster with Tom Holland is streaming on Amazon.

Not only novels serve as film templates, but video games have also been adapted numerous times. The result does not always convince fans. You can see in the stream whether Uncharted has been successful. The blockbuster spent a full twelve years in production hell before it hit theaters with Tom Holland.

From video game to adventure film: that’s what Uncharted is about

The adventurer Sully (Mark Wahlberg) hires the young Nathan Drake (Holland) to find the 500-year-old fortune of the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan. But wealthy and ruthless Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) is also after the treasure and opens a hunt for the duo around the world.

In this gigantic adventure film, the well-known video game characters are told in an origin story in order to avoid the classic problems of a video game movie. At the box office, this was able to attract a lot of fans and grossed a whopping $400 million. The gigantic blockbuster provides plenty of entertainment, even if the reviews were mixed.

In our opinion piece, Mark Wahlberg in particular stood out as a miscast. Perhaps it was also because he has been involved in the project for twelve years and was originally intended to play Drake.

Uncharted: Mark Wahlberg was supposed to play Drake alongside Al Pacino

The first plans to adapt the video game series for the big screen were made as early as 2008. The project took shape in October 2010, when The Fighter director David O. Russell was to take over the script and direct. He had cast Wahlberg in his sports drama and also saw him in the lead role as Nathan Drake in the adaptation.

There was to be even more star power with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. As Wahlberg revealed in the summer of 2011, the script included roles for the acting legends (via Den of Geek). De Niro was to play Drake’s father and Pesci his uncle, suggesting that the family would have played an important role in the adventure film.

Russell ultimately dropped out due to creative differences with the studio, and the project passed through the hands of six other directors before Ruben Fleischer finally took over the helm and cast Tom Holland in the lead role. Fans can be pleased, because the adventure is to be continued.
