It was released in theaters three months ago. Now you can enjoy the most controversial sci-fi film of 2024 in the comfort of your own home. It was directed by one of the greatest directors of all time.

How did this happen? Last year, master director Francis Ford Coppola returned to the big screen with a new film: Megalopolis. The two-and-a-half-hour sci-fi epic was met with mixed reactions from some film fans. It wasn’t a new The Godfather or Apocalypse Now.

Instead, Megalopolis joins Coppola’s idiosyncratic creative phase, which has given us works such as Youth Without Youth, Twixt and Tetro in the past. No wonder Megalopolis was extremely divisively received. The reviews range from misunderstood masterpiece to embarrassing total failure.

Now streaming on Amazon Prime Video: Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic Megalopolis in your home theater

If you missed Megalopolis in the cinema or want to take another look at the sci-fi film bathed in golden light, you now have the opportunity to do so. Coppola’s 120-million-dollar passion project has been available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, among others, for a few days now.

The story of Megalopolis takes us to an alternate version of our world, where a city suspiciously resembles New York. This is New Rome, a metropolis on the brink of disaster. The idealistic architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver) pursues a daring vision of the future, but clashes with the conservative mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito).

Watch the trailer for Megalopolis here:

As the two men duel in relentless power plays, the situation is complicated when Cesar meets and falls in love with the daughter of the mayor. Can Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel) bring reconciliation or will the situation escalate? The future of New Rome is at stake.
