New on Amazon Prime: Brilliant conspiracy thriller with Margot Robbie that was completely unjustly flopped in theaters

Led by Margot Robbie, Amsterdam was a mega-flop at the box office. Nevertheless, it is worth a look. From now on, you can stream the extremely fascinating conspiracy thriller on Amazon Prime.

Initially, Amsterdam was considered a promising Oscar contender. Not least because director and screenwriter David O. Russell is a welcome guest in the Academy’s circle, as American Hustle, Silver Linings and The Fighter prove. However, his latest film was a box office flop – despite a star-studded cast.

Now you can watch the movie on Amazon Prime with a streaming subscription.

Amsterdam on Amazon Prime: A great ensemble stumbles through an idiosyncratic period comedy

At the center of the story are three friends: nurse Valerie Voze (Margot Robbie), lawyer Burt Berendsen (Christian Bale) and doctor Harold Woodman (John David Washington). They first met each other 15 years ago. Now they are drawn into a great conspiracy.

A murder in 1930s New York is the starting point of the story. From this moment on, we move through different time periods and meet weird characters played by acting greats such as Anya Taylor-Joy, Michael Shannon and Robert De Niro. And that’s just the beginning of the powerful ensemble.

The remarkable cast of Amsterdam also includes Zoe Saldana, Matthias Schoenaerts, Timothy Olyphant, Rami Malek and Andrea Riseborough. You can hardly believe you’ve discovered all the stars when Mike Myers and Chris Rock turn up, not to mention pop superstar Taylor Swift.

In the end, none of the stars mentioned were able to turn Amsterdam into a box office success. With a budget of 80 million US dollars, the film only grossed 31 million US dollars worldwide. In the meantime, there was even talk of a loss of 80 to 100 million US dollars. This was probably not what anyone had expected when the film with this cast was announced.
