The series adaptation of Sebastian Fitzek’s bestseller Die Therapie (The Therapy) became a mega-hit for Amazon Prime Video at the end of 2023. Now the streamer is launching another adaptation of the bestselling author’s work, which takes on one of the most successful novels from Fitzek’s oeuvre. Der Heimweg (The Way Home) will start as a movie on Amazon in a few days.

For Jules (Sabin Tambrea), it is an ordinary Saturday evening on duty for the escort phone, which offers women the opportunity to be safely escorted home by phone. When young mother Klara (Luise Heyer) calls, Jules’ life suddenly goes off the rails.
Klara reports that she is being threatened by a notorious serial killer of women, the Calendar Killer. He gives her a deadly choice: either she murders her own husband (Friedrich Mücke) or the killer will hunt her down himself. Jules is now her last hope.
The novel by Sebastian Fitzek remained at number 1 in the German book charts for a full 11 weeks after its publication in 2020 and was represented in the bestseller lists for a total of 81 weeks. Despite its late release in the fall, The Way Home became the best-selling book of 2020 in Germany.
The Amazon adaptation was directed by Adolfo Kolmerer (Oderbruch) from a screenplay by Susanne Schneider (Bella Block). The cast includes Sabin Tambrea (In einem Land, das es nicht mehr gibt), Luise Heyer (Der Junge muss an die frische Luft), Friedrich Mücke (Balloon), Andreas Döhler (All Quiet on the Western Front) and Rainer Bock (Breaking Bad).
