Jules (Sabin Tambrea) works for a company that offers women the opportunity to be accompanied home with telephone support. His shift on Saturday night begins as unspectacularly as usual, before he receives a special call: young mother Klara (Luise Heyer) tells him about a terrible and seemingly hopeless situation.
The notorious serial killer of women, known as the “Calendar Killer”, is hot on Klara’s heels and has given her a deadly ultimatum: either she murders her own husband (Friedrich Mücke) – or she herself expects to die. Only Jules can help her now. A dangerous game begins.
The novel The Way Home was at number 1 in the German book charts for a full 11 weeks and remained on the German bestseller lists for 81 weeks. Within a few weeks, the novel became the best-selling book of 2020. For Amazon Prime Video, The Way Home is the second adaptation of a novel by Sebastian Fitzek, following The Therapy.
Oderbruch director Adolfo Kolmerer staged the novel adaptation based on a script by Susanne Schneider (Bella Block). In addition to Sabin Tambrea (Babylon Berlin), Luise Heyer (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and Friedrich Mücke (Beautiful), Rainer Bock (Better Call Saul) and Andreas Döhler (All Quiet on the Western Front), among others, can be seen in The Way Home.
