Will there be a Back in Action 2 on Netflix? If the streamer decides to do so, the director already has a solution for the children who have grown up in the meantime.
The Netflix charts are still dominated by the action comedy Back in Action. But what about a sequel to the streaming hit with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx as reactivated agents and married couple?
And how does director Seth Gordon plan to solve the problem of the two kids, Alice (McKenna Roberts) and Leo (Rylan Jackson), visibly aging between films?
Back in Action 2: Time Leap and Grandpa in Potential Netflix Sequel
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, filmmaker Gordon said the following about the children’s growth issue:
“I think we would honor the truth of their life’s timeline and show a different event for both of them, say later in high school.”
So a leap in time, which means that the young stars do not have to be replaced by even younger replacements. The whole thing suits Gordon’s Back in Action 2 plans very well anyway, because in contrast to Emily and Matt, the promising children of the agent couple are supposed to be the focus of the sequel.
In addition to the new generation, further Back in Action family additions have already been hinted at for a possible sequel. This happens in the last few minutes of the film, when (twist!) the talk is not of Action-Oma Ginny (Glenn Close) on a mission, but of the previously unseen father/grandfather.
However, Back in Action 2 has not yet been officially commissioned. Gordon continues:
There are definitely already ideas about who the dad might be and what the whole story could be about. [Netflix] doesn’t even recognize the idea of a sequel! So if you put in a good word, there might be a chance.
Back in Action has been streaming on Netflix since January 17, 2025, and has already topped the service’s movie charts in 93 countries.
