On Disney+, you can stream one of the best action movies of the last 20 years. The adrenaline rush lasts almost 100 minutes and features Denzel Washington in top form. Tony Scott was one of the best action directors of his time. He became famous through the incredible success of Top Gun. He later directed genre classics such as Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State. However, his most exciting creative phase only began after the turn of the millennium – and actor Denzel Washington.

From Man on Fire to Déjà Vu to The Taking of Pelham 1 23, Scott has enriched action cinema with some restless, virtuoso films in the 2000s. Unstoppable, the last film by the filmmaker, who passed away far too soon, fits perfectly into this series.

Unstoppable on Disney+: Denzel Washington’s suspense masterpiece will have you holding your breath

The story of Unstoppable is quickly explained: a freight train with 39 cars is racing uncontrollably at 100 kilometers per hour through the area and threatens to derail in a steep curve and crash into a fuel depot. Only the train driver Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) and his young colleague Will Colson (Chris Pine) can prevent the train from turning into a toxic bomb.

With Unstoppable, Tony Scott has created a masterful action thriller that is designed to be highly suspenseful. Speed plays a crucial role in this, but the dynamic between the unlikely duo Barnes and Colson is just as important. The two have to learn to trust each other.

Denzel Washington and Chris Pine are convincing as the unlikely team that not only has to get the train under control, but also their personal feelings. Everything happens so fast that you can hardly catch your breath. Basically, Unstoppable feels like we are witnessing the events in real time.

Scott lets us experience every decision that leads to or prevents disaster through the perspectives of the individual characters. Unstoppable races with the train directly over the tracks, but also gives us an overview of the overall situation. This way, we know what is at stake at all times.
