Principal photography for the new Christopher Nolan film is scheduled to begin in a few days. He is said to have built his own Troy for his adaptation of the Odyssey.
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan (The Prestige, Oppenheimer) is known for ambitious filming. So it should come as no surprise that he apparently spares no effort or expense when it comes to bringing Homer’s adventurous odyssey to the screen. Tourists in Morocco have now reportedly spotted one of his elaborate sets at the historic World Heritage city of Aït-Ben-Haddou, as reported by a popular Nolan fan account on X.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey: An international mammoth project
The location scouting matches the list of locations that Variety recently included North African Morocco. In addition, filming will take place in the United Kingdom and on the Italian island of Favignana, which is said to have inspired Homer for the island of the Cyclops and its goats. Filming will begin this month, February 2025.
The cast for Nolan’s odyssey is also international, consisting mainly of British and American actors. Among them are Spider-Man actor Tom Holland and Dune star Zendaya, as well as Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong’o and many more.

A 2700-year-old adventure epic is set to conquer the silver screen
Homer’s almost 3000-year-old tale from ancient Greece tells of the wanderings of Odysseus. On his journey home by sea, he encounters many trials, such as a man-eating Cyclops, a sorceress who turns parts of his crew into pigs, and the beguiling Sirens with their dangerous song.
It is not yet known which parts of the epic odyssey will make it into Nolan’s film version, or whether he will focus on a specific part. With 24 books or songs consisting of over 12,000 verses, there is no shortage of material to choose from.
