With The Handmaid’s Tale, one of the best sci-fi series of the last 20 years is ending. The first teaser for the final sixth season promises a particularly bloody finale.
Even the worst dystopias come to an end at some point. In the case of The Handmaid’s Tale, however, this fact will tend to sadden fans: we consider the film adaptation of the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood to be one of the best sci-fi series since 2000. And now the first teaser for the sixth and final season is out.

Big sci-fi finale: The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 is about to go to war
The Handmaid’s Tale is set in a dystopian future in which environmental destruction and disease have rendered a large part of humanity infertile. Insecurity and fear have helped Christian fundamentalists in the US to come to power, and in the newly founded state of Gilead, they exercise brutal oppression: women of childbearing age are robbed of their identity and systematically raped for reproductive purposes.
At first subtly, and then with ever more vehement and angry methods, June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), who is called Desfred as a maid, rebels against the cruel injustice. As the trailer for the sixth season of the series shows, the time for restraint is over: in blood-red uniforms, the maids become an army that puts a knife to the throat of their tormentors.
As was already announced in 2023, long-time showrunner Bruce Miller handed over the reins to Eric Tuchman (Stitchers) and Yahlin Chang (Supergirl) for season 6. According to Variety, he will take care of filming the The Handmaid’s Tale sequel The Testaments.
When will The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 be released in our country?
According to a press release, all episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 will be released in Germany at the same time as they air on Hulu in the US: the first three episodes will be released on Magenta TV on April 8, 2025, with further episodes released weekly. The finale will be available from May 27.
