Titanic star Kate Winslet is producing a movie for Netflix. In doing so, she is swapping her position in front of the camera for a place in the director’s chair.
Over the years, Oscar-winner Kate Winslet has not only demonstrated great versatility in her choice of roles, but is also clearly a multitalented individual. Last year, for example, she said in the How to Fail podcast (via THR): “So many people on film sets, people I work with and know well, whether they’re an actor or a crew member, tell me, ‘Why don’t you direct?’” An idea that the actress, who rose to worldwide fame with Titanic, initially couldn’t quite get her head around.
But then things started to happen and now Winslet is about to make her first film for Netflix. And the cast is impressive.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Winslet’s directorial debut is tentatively titled Goodbye June. The only thing known about the content is that it is a drama set in present-day England that is as humorous as it is emotional, in which several estranged siblings have to pull themselves together after being catapulted into a new situation. Filming is scheduled to start soon.
Not only is the high carat behind the camera impressive, but there are also a number of stars in front of the camera who have already been confirmed. First and foremost Toni Collette (Hereditary) and Helen Mirren (The Queen), as well as Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough and Timothy Spall.
In the aforementioned podcast, Kate Winslet, who was last seen in the HBO series The Regime, explained that she was persuaded to enter the male-dominated world of directing as follows:
The more I don’t do it now, given the need to change culture, the more I feel like I’m letting other women down by not doing it. I’m really starting to feel that in a pretty powerful way. The more of us do it, the more we inspire others to do it too.
It probably didn’t hurt either that their son Joe Anders contributed the script, which is to be directed.
