Prime streams 4.5 hours of superhero entertainment: Experience the rise and fall of an epic universe

Two great comic book adaptations are available to watch on Prime today, which were not only successful but had plenty of potential to expand the franchise, but things turned out differently.

At the beginning of the 2000s, we were able to see Spider-Man on the big screen for the first time. Tobey Maguire, as the shy Peter Parker, took hearts by storm in the trilogy. In 2012, the reboot followed with Andrew Garfield as the superhero. In the much darker film adaptation The Amazing Spider-Man by Marc Webb, Garfield plays a doubting hero. The plans for the franchise were ambitious but quickly fell through. Prime streams the first part and the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro.

Spider-Man double feature: that’s what parts 1 and 2 are about

High school student Peter Parker (Garfield) is growing up sheltered with his relatives, but when he finds his father’s mysterious briefcase, he tries to find out why his parents left him back then. The trail leads him to his father’s former colleague Dr. Curt Conner (Rhys Ifans) and the research facility Oscorp Industries. Soon, his and Dr. Connors’ lives will be changed forever.
In the second part, Peter is torn between his duties as a student and his duties as a superhero. The situation becomes even more precarious when his girlfriend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) is in danger. Matt Dillon (Jamie Foxx), an Oscorp employee, has literally mutated into the electrically charged Electro and is spiraling completely out of control. But that’s not the only villain Spider-Man has to deal with.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Rise and Fall of a Franchise

Sony had big plans for the comic book adaptation and at first it looked good, after all, both films grossed over $700 million, with a budget of about $200 million each. The sequel was supposed to be the basis for further films and spin-offs, but so far we have been waiting in vain. The reason for this was the failed deal between rights holder Sony and Marvel.

But fans have reason to be hopeful: after all, Garfield slipped back into the iconic costume alongside Maguire and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With a box office gross of 1.9 billion US dollars, it is by far the most successful film in the entire franchise and is crying out for another Spidey triumvirate. At the beginning of the year, Garfield finally took a stand on whether he would return to the universe.

There is also hope for the spin-off The Sinister Six, which is planned after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and revolves around the villainous group around Electro and Co. So it’s a good time to watch the movies in a double pack.
