More than two decades later, the time has finally come: with Manitou’s canoe, the second part of the Winnetou parody is coming to the big screen. Who makes Der Schuh des Manitu 2?
None other than Schuh des Manitu mastermind Michael “Bully” Herbig returns to the director’s chair. He is also serving as producer and co-writer. He wrote the script with Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian. The three have been a well-rehearsed team since the sketch comedy show Bullyparade (1997-2002).
In a press release from Constantin Film, Bully was quoted as saying the following about the status quo of the script:
We were all standing around the printer, very excited. And when we finally held the script in our hands, we could hardly believe our luck: it’s a comedy!

What is the plot of Manitou’s Shoe 2?
For a long time, specific details of the plot of Manitou’s Canoe were buried deep under the folding chair. But now there is a detailed description.
The official plot is as follows:
Abahachi, the chief of the Apaches (Michael Bully Herbig), and his white blood brother Ranger (Christian Tramitz) fight tirelessly for peace and justice – but a new, up-and-coming gang is making life particularly difficult for them! They lure Abahachi and Ranger into a trap to get their hands on the legendary “Canoe of Manitu”.

It is only at the last second that they can be saved by their faithful companion, the lovable Greek Dimitri (Rick Kavanian), and his new specialist Mary (Jasmin Schwiers). But as it turns out, this was all part of a grand plan and just the beginning. With combined forces (and all sorts of disagreements and misunderstandings), the heroes plunge into their greatest adventure – and find surprising answers to the most important questions in life!
Does humor still work at all today?
The humor of Der Schuh des Manitu is very versatile, but has also been criticized in recent years. Especially some homophobic, racist and sexist jokes from the original raise the question of whether and how Der Schuh des Manitu 2 will work in 2025. In an interview with the SZ, Bully 2022 hinted that he would adapt the jokes to the zeitgeist if he returned to Manitou’s Shoe.
The only thing I had said was that you wouldn’t make this movie the same way today. If at all, then probably adapted to the zeitgeist. I still enjoy watching One, Two, Three by Billy Wilder, and this movie wouldn’t be made the same way today either. Manitou’s Shoe was already a parody of the old movies from the 60s, where we already found some things unintentionally funny back then.
