The Masked Singer, the popular guessing game show about music performers, struggled with ratings in the last season. Now ProSieben has decided on a drastic step.
When The Masked Singer premiered on ProSieben in 2019, the response was overwhelming and all of Germany was glued to their screens as the music artists behind the costumes were unmasked. The ratings that summer were correspondingly high. But these days, the show is struggling with its ratings.
ProSieben spokesperson: “The Masked Singer will take a longer break in 2025”
In response to a request from DWDL, ProSieben spokesperson Christoph Körfer confirmed that the popular music show will no longer be broadcast for an indefinite period. “The Masked Singer will take a longer break in 2025 and will only come once,” said Körfer in the request.
The “once” refers to once a year and is meant to indicate that The Masked Singer will not appear as usual with several seasons a year, but only once a year. This means that the spring season in particular, which may have been planned for the near future, will be canceled.
Quotas of The Masked Singer were poor
The Masked Singer struggled with ratings last season. Although the average was almost 1.2 million viewers per episode, the ProSieben show couldn’t even win a double-digit market share. Unusual, considering that the show even had a 30 percent market share in its early days.
According to Christoph Körfer, another season is planned for this year, but a new date has not yet been set. Possibly the last fall season, which took place in November and December, will be used as a model.
