Today, a modern and funny reimagining of a true cult classic is streaming. The fast-paced fantasy action is better than its reputation, but the fan base remains divided.

In 2016, the Ghostbusters movie rebooted the classic, this time focusing on four women in the main cast, which did not exactly excite many fans. Thirty years after the events of the time, ghosts are once again haunting New York. This time, Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) are taking on the task. It’s about time, too, because a janitor is using a homemade machine to attract ghosts. Among them is one that can even take possession of people.
Ghostbusters is much better than its reputation
The new Ghostbusters franchise was hotly debated on social media in advance. The decision to bring a female lead on board this time sparked great resentment among some fans. Sony boss Tom Rothman was more than clear about this.
The negative sentiment probably also had an impact at the box office, where the film flopped. Yet the ratings weren’t that bad: after all, 74 percent of critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a positive review. However, the division among fans is already evident in their significantly lower rating of 49 percent. This also corresponds to the 2,006 users in our community who rated Ghostbusters 4.8 out of 10. Not exactly a accolade, but the reboot is not as bad as its reputation.
After all, as with the original, the chemistry among the actresses is right. Plus, you get numerous easter eggs, hilarious gags and a slew of cameo appearances. An entertaining movie night that gives you 117 minutes of blockbuster action. Those who can’t get enough of the franchise can look forward to more content starting March 21.
