Right behind The Electric State on Netflix is a mystery thriller starring Ben Affleck. In the movie, he plays an investigator searching for his missing daughter.
The Electric State dominates the Netflix charts, but for some it’s just a sci-fi disappointment. And the competition is not sleeping: Mystery thriller Hypnotic is already in second place, ready to take the crown at the right moment.
Second on Netflix: That’s what the thriller Hypnotic on Netflix is about
Hypnotic revolves around Texas police officer Rourke (Ben Affleck), who is haunted by the unresolved kidnapping of his young daughter. When he comes across a photo and a clue to her whereabouts during an operation, he investigates. Suddenly, he stumbles upon a government program that uses powerful hypnotists for sinister purposes.
One of them, Lev Dellrayne (William Fichtner), is searching for a mysterious weapon and tries to get rid of Rourke. The investigator, on the other hand, receives support from the hypnotist Cruz (Alice Braga). But a single revelation ultimately turns Rourke’s entire world upside down.
Star director Robert Rodriguez worked on Hypnotic for over 20 years
Hypnotic is a directorial work by star director and Tarantino friend Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk till Dawn). As the Guardian, among others, writes, he had already finished the script for the film in 2002. But it was only at the end of the 2010s that the project entered the hot phase.
When the movie finally came out in 2023, it was a box office flop. Many critics accused the movie of a lack of creativity and excitement, as Rotten Tomatoes shows. Others, on the other hand, thought the movie was gripping popcorn entertainment.
This is what the Netflix charts currently look like:
- 1. The Electric State

- 5. Plankton: The Movie
