Last week, Disney’s new Snow White film celebrated its premiere. The first reactions are mostly positive and praise especially the lead actress Rachel Zegler.
In a few days, Snow White will be released in theaters – almost a decade after the movie first made the rounds in Hollywood’s rumor mill. Disney is reissuing one of its greatest animation classics. This time, however, it is a live-action film that takes us into the dreamy world of fairy tales.
Last Wednesday, the fantasy blockbuster celebrated its world premiere in Segovia, Spain. The Alcázar of Segovia, located there, served as inspiration for the original, which was released in 1937. The US premiere followed in Los Angeles on Friday. Over the weekend, the first English-language reactions have come in.
How good is the new Snow White movie? The first reactions are extremely enthusiastic.
Before the embargo on the detailed reviews is lifted on Wednesday, we can get a small sample of opinions on Snow White in 2025. On X (formerly Twitter), some critics and fans are sharing their impressions of the film – and they are extremely positive. There is even talk of one of the best Disney remakes.
Katcy Stephan from the industry magazine Variety is bursting with enthusiasm:
Rachel Zegler is a radiant supernova in Snow White and wonderfully embodies the graceful, gentle nature of the Disney princess. It’s a visual feast with stunning new music numbers and, of course, dozens of adorable animated animals. The script wisely adds new depth to the heroine through her burning desire to become the leader her father thought she was and a love story as sweet as apple pie.

Despite the bob being all over the place, Snow White is pretty charming! The message is well received, the animals are cute, and Rachel Zegler, with her enchanting voice, is stunning. It almost got a full tear out of me, and I’ve never cried in my entire life.

Christopher Mills, who publishes on various film sites, writes:
The biggest surprise of 2025 is that the most controversial and hated film of the year is actually a decent live-action remake. Not only is Snow White one of the best live-action remakes in years, but it’s also a movie that recaptures the magic of the 1937 film.
Rachel Zegler IS Snow White and she delivers an absolutely magical performance. The musical numbers are unforgettable, the visual effects (not the creepy dwarves) are enchanting and the script by Erin Cressida Wilson gives this world a depth I didn’t know it needed.

Paul Klein from Filmhounds Magazine adds:
I may regret saying this, but Snow White is solid. I really enjoyed the musical numbers, particularly the opening number and the Queen’s evil song. Zegler was great in the lead role, and Gadot was entertaining. It’s really the CGI dwarfs that drag the movie down. This decision is baffling.

Even Skyler Shuler, co-founder of The DisInsider, gives the all-clear:
Listen, I was worried, but let me tell you, Snow White is PURE DISNEY MAGIC! This will be a lot of people’s favorite live-action remake.
