We still have to be patient for a while until the fourth season of Bridgerton appears on Netflix. However, there is now a film in the streaming subscription that should make fans of the series very happy.

Bridgerton is one of the biggest original hits Netflix has produced in recent years. Not only have three seasons of the romantic period drama been released, but we have also already seen a spin-off series, Queen Charlotte. For the time being, however, we have to wait for more.

Filming is currently underway for the fourth season of Bridgerton, which will not arrive on Netflix until next year. To bridge the long wait, the streaming service has added a movie to its program that is the perfect substitute. After all, we are talking about one of the quintessential costume movies: Pride and Prejudice.

Streaming tip for Bridgerton fans: Pride and Prejudice from 2005 is now streaming on Netflix

The seminal novel by British writer Jane Austen from 1813 has been made into a film numerous times. Probably the most iconic screen version was directed by Joe Wright and released in 2005. Big emotions in big pictures: there are few costume films that are so perfectly staged.

The story of Pride and Prejudice takes us back to the 18th century and introduces us to the Bennet family, who are actually doing quite well. In the eyes of Mrs. Bennet (Brenda Blethyn), however, one thing could be much better. Because none of her five daughters is married. She tries to change that by all means necessary.

Henceforth, long-planned dates and anything but chance encounters are on the agenda to connect her daughters with potential husbands. Only Lizzie (Keira Knightley) is skeptical of her mother’s scheme. Just then, Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) walks in the door.

New on Netflix: Keira Knightley’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation is a triumph

Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is a timeless classic that has been adapted in a variety of ways. Wright takes a classic approach to his film, taking us through the magnificent rooms of stately homes, where one impressive costume follows another. Every shot resembles a painting.

Pride and Prejudice not only looks stunning when the characters are standing still, carefully positioned in the frame. It is even more impressive when the camera starts moving and gives cinematic expression to the characters’ hidden feelings. It glides energetically up stairs and through the rain.

Roman Osin’s excellent camerawork is driven by Dario Marianelli’s dreamlike score, not to mention the dialogues penned by Deborah Moggach, which effortlessly keep up with any Bridgerton drama and surpass it with punch lines and precise observations of the society of the time.

And then there’s Keira Knightley, who delivers one of the best acting performances of her career in Pride and Prejudice. She has worked with Joe Wright two other times. The results are two no-less-phenomenal costume films: Atonement (2007) and Anna Karenina (2012).

Pride and Prejudice has been streaming on Netflix since March 15, 2025.
