In the latest episodes of season 2, the Yellowstone series from 1923 reveals the surprising origin of the deadliest place in the Western saga: the train station.
Over the course of five seasons, the Dutton family from the series Yellowstone has brought quite a few people to the station. However, this does not refer to a literal train station, but to a place on the border between Montana and Wyoming where bodies are regularly disposed of. The spin-off 1923 now reveals the origin of the “Train Station” in the 4th episode of season 2, which surprisingly was not first discovered by the Duttons.
1923 Season 2: The Yellowstone series reveals the discovery of the train station
It is not the Duttons, but their adversary Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) who first discovers this special place in 1923. The shady entrepreneur wants to have the family killed in order to get their land, Paradise Valley. He gives his henchman Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) a tip on how to get away with such a crime:
It’s a county with a population of zero. And of course that’s why there are no 12 jurors there. There’s no judge, there’s no sheriff. In other words, there’s no crime.
The reference is, of course, to the deep gorge in the Montana border country where the Duttons and their employees later dispose of their killed enemies. The find is ideal for Whitfield’s perfidious plan: the rancher family is to be wiped out with a targeted attack and their bodies disposed of in that lawless place. There is no fear of punishment.
In the very same scene, Creighton is sent directly to the disposal site for training purposes when Whitfield’s sex slave Christy (Cailyn Rice) is found dead in the bedroom. By the end of season 2, the Duttons themselves will surely also get to know the canyon terrain. Perhaps the secret of why this place is called a train station will be revealed.
The train station in Yellowstone even has a real-life counterpart. The so-called Zone of Death is a small part of Yellowstone National Park where, due to a legal loophole, it is theoretically possible to commit crimes and even murder without penalty. This is because there are not enough residents in this administrative district to assemble a grand jury.

The second season of the Yellowstone series 1923 started on February 23, 2025 on Paramount+. There will be a new episode every Sunday.
