No Reacher season can do without toughness. In season 3, however, there was a scene that pushed several stars to their limits in different ways.
If you want to play in Reacher, you can’t be squeamish: many stars have to go through brutal training, with Oliver Richter, for example, spending as much as four hours a day fighting. But every now and then, a scene takes a toll on the cast. This applies, for example, to a sequence from season 6, episode 6: Russian roulette is played there. Spoiler alert!
Reacher star wrestled with his emotions in a disturbing scene
At the end of episode 6, psychopathic criminal Quinn (Brian Tee) takes revenge on his victims: He has taken over Zachary Beck’s (Anthony Michael Hall) company – and the latter has negligently allowed state spies to infiltrate the company. A lesson must be learned.
Quinn summons Beck to the kitchen of his house and forces him to play a torturous game: Zachary’s son Richard (Johnny Berchtold) has to put a loaded pistol to his temple and play Russian roulette. Before the helpless eyes of his father.
father and son survive the scene. Nevertheless, it took a toll, and apparently on the stars, too: Hall told Collider that the scene was very emotional. Also because the shooting lasted all night:
I was really worked up for the scene. […] It went on all night. […] You have to learn to manage your energy.
“It was a tough scene, no question about it,” agrees Brian Tee. “It was great to clash like that and benefit from each other’s energy. That’s how the best scenes are made.”
But the scene affected the Reacher star with the most unsophisticated role the most: Oliver Richters plays the muscle giant Paulie, who, as Quinn’s right hand, mercilessly enforces his laws. Richters confided in Hall:
I felt so sorry for your son [in the series]. I watched and was not allowed to show anything [in my role]. But it was such a sad sight!
