A realistic and gripping thriller was shown on TV, which was preceded by intensive preparations in which the stars were not spared and were exposed to violence almost daily.
There are some legendary cop duos in film history, many of whom can be found in comedies. In End of Watch, Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña present us with a more realistic and all the more dramatic picture of two investigators in the drug scene who get caught in the crosshairs of rival gangs.
End of Watch im Stream: Spannender und realistischer Cop-Alltag
Best friends Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Zavalla (Peña) are a close-knit team, even at work. Although they can do so little against drug trafficking, they are full of energy and even take on the mafia. When they start investigating on their own, the situation threatens to escalate and their families are also in great danger.
Filming of End of Watch: Man was shot in front of Gyllenhaal
Director David Ayer has succeeded in creating a haunting portrayal of the everyday life of a police officer in Los Angeles, far removed from the unrealistic popcorn movies. But you can still expect exciting shootouts, even though the movie focuses squarely on the friendship between the two cops.
Ayer wrote the script in just six days (via Collider ), but the preparation for the actors was much more extensive and intensive. The leading actors spent a total of five months with the LAPD, accompanying the police officers on their missions. As Gyllenhaal reported in an interview with The Guardian, a man was shot dead before his eyes on the very first day. In addition to the violence in southern LA, he also got to know and appreciate the rich culture of its inhabitants.
The intense preparation for the film is evident in the realistic portrayal, which is also helped by the idiosyncratic camerawork, shot in a found footage style.
