Not much stands in the way of filming the highly anticipated sequel to an action classic. Now an important new milestone has been reached.
For several years, master director Michael Mann has been working on the sequel to his immortal action classic Heat. The sequel already exists in book form since 2022. Part 2 is also supposed to be released on the big screen and now the director has taken another important step towards this.
Michael Mann has submitted the finished Heat 2 script
A few months ago, Mann said that he would soon finish the script for the Heat sequel. This milestone has now been reached. In a recent interview with Vulture, the director revealed that he has now finished writing the script for Heat 2 and submitted it to the studio Warner Bros.
There are currently no more details about the current status of the sequel to the action masterpiece. According to previous speculation, Star Wars star Adam Driver and Elvis actor Austin Butler could star in Heat 2. They would probably play younger versions of Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley and Al Pacino’s Vincent Hanna.
When will Heat 2 be released in theaters?
A theatrical release for the action sequel is still a long way off and has not yet been officially announced. If filming begins later this year or next year, we don’t expect Heat 2 to be released until 2027 at the earliest.
In the book, the sequel picks up one day after the events of the movie. The wounded Chris Shiherlis (played by Val Kilmer in the movie) desperately tries to leave L.A. The story moves back and forth through the six years leading up to the heist and the six years immediately following it.
