With Dune 3: Messiah, the third part of the epic sci-fi series by Denis Villeneuve is about to be released. Robert Pattinson could now be added to the renowned cast.
With Dune and Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve has brought two of the most successful and best sci-fi films of recent years to cinemas. Based on the groundbreaking novels by Frank Herbert, Dune 3: Messiah is now a third part in the starting blocks, which is to continue the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and his rule over the eponymous desert planet.
While the cast around Chalamet, Zendaya and Florence Pugh already includes numerous big names, another Hollywood star could join the cast of Dune 3: Robert Pattinson. He is said to have a special role.
Robert Pattinson could play villain Scytale in Dune 3: Messiah
As Deadline reports, Pattinson has not yet received an official offer from Villeneuve and Warner Bros. for Dune 3. However, the The Batman star is said to have been considered for a specific role. According to the report, Pattinson is in the running for the villain Scytale.
Scytale is a shape-shifting and face-dancing member of the secret Bene Tleilax society. He is one of Paul Atreides’ main antagonists in Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah and uses deception and genetic manipulation to challenge the empire.
While Pattinson would certainly be an exciting choice for the Dune villain, the The Batman star’s schedule still raises doubts. That’s because Pattinson is currently shooting Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Fans are also hoping that Pattinson will return to the The Batman 2 set afterwards. Dune 3, on the other hand, is scheduled to start shooting in June 2025.
Whether Pattinson will actually take on the role of the Dune villain remains to be seen. There is currently no official release date for the sci-fi sequel. However, Warner Bros. has reserved an as-yet-untitled Denis Villeneuve project for next year in its schedule. It is likely that this is Dune 3. Accordingly, the film could be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
