With Yellowstone, Kevin Costner has been on everyone’s lips in recent years. Nevertheless, he doesn’t want to watch the series with his family, and that’s perfectly justified.
Kevin Costner has made numerous acclaimed Westerns in his career, from Dances with Wolves to Horizon. With Yellowstone by series creator Taylor Sheridan, he was able to breathe new life into the neo-Western and start an entire series universe. But although the series focuses on a family, Costner doesn’t think it’s suitable for families at all.
Yellowstone is definitely not suitable for young people in Kevin Costner’s eyes
There are some wild moments in the series that are definitely too brutal for children and teenagers. In addition to murder and other horrific acts of violence, sexual themes are also depicted. In an interview with ExtraTv, Kevin Costner said in 2023 that he doesn’t want to watch Yellowstone with his family.
It’s too inappropriate for them, and they’ll probably figure out how to watch it. But it has some nasty little spots that everyone else is enjoying.
At this point, he made it clear that he supports the series and merely finds it inappropriate for his children. However, it is questionable whether he will show them Yellowstone later on, since he did not leave Yellowstone on the best of terms. Even co-stars are taking shots at him after his departure.
Kevin Costner has a total of seven children. Four of them have been adults for a long time. In particular, he is probably concerned about his three teenage children. People lists them: Cayden Wyatt is currently 17, Hayes Logan 16 and Grace Avery 14 years old. At the time of the interview, they were therefore two years younger. Millions of fans who have children themselves will agree that they prefer to watch the brutal western without the offspring.
Kevin Costner didn’t leave Yellowstone on good terms
Many fans were surprised when Kevin Costner left Yellowstone halfway through season 5. Spoilers for Yellowstone season 5: Above all, they were horrified by the death of Costner’s character John Dutton. Not only was he killed, but the act was even staged as a suicide. According to Slashfilm, Costner was also unhappy with the demise of his character, even though he wanted to leave the series himself. Spoiler end.
Since Costner wanted to leave the series because of other projects and also because of some legal issues, his relationship with showrunner Taylor Sheridan was already strained. He himself did not follow the series afterwards and is apparently in no hurry to do so.
