Today we recommend a very special fantasy film. The original had a total of six parts, but unfortunately the movie only got one sequel
Fans have been waiting 17 years for a new part to be released, but will probably have to give up hope: Although the Russian fantasy film Guardians of the Night is based on a series of novels that has been given six main parts, there has been just one sequel.
Guardians of the Night: What’s it all about?
For over 1000 years there has been peace between the so-called Others, who are made up of beings of darkness and light. However, this peace is crumbling and stands on more than shaky legs. The Guardians of the Night and the Guardians of the Day, who each control their counterparts, ensure that the rules are observed.
In Moscow in the 1990s, Anton (Konstantin Khabenskiy) first has to learn the hard way what goes on in secret without people’s knowledge. A few years later, he himself becomes one of the Guardians of the Night and fights doggedly to preserve the balance and the truce between supernatural beings such as vampires, witches and shape-shifters.
(Anton belongs to the Guardians of the Night, where he also has to deal with shapeshifters, for example.)
But because some vampires want to kill a human without permission, the Guardians of the Night have to intervene. Unfortunately, Anton also encounters a mysterious woman who is surrounded by a gigantic dark vortex. The head of the Night’s Watch Geser (Vladimir Menshov) fears that this vortex could mean the end of the world.
Guardians of the Night fans have been waiting 17 years for a sequel
Guardians of the Night is just one part of the first Guardians book by Sergei Lukianenko. A sequel, Guardians of the Day, was published in Germany in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Although it is called the same as the second book in the original, it again mainly tells stories from the first book. However, both films also take a lot of liberties and change a few things
After Guardians of the Night and Guardians of the Day, Sergei Lukianenko has published four more main parts of his extremely successful series of novels: Guardians of Twilight, Guardians of Eternity, Guardians of Tomorrow and The Last Guardians. Shushpanov Arkady then even wrote three more Guardians books with Lukianenko’s support.
So there would be more than enough material to breathe new life into this impressive and dark fantasy world. Of course, if necessary, we would also go for a large-scale series that simply remakes all the books from the beginning.
