Far too few people have seen Catch the Killer, which is a shame. Because the thriller, in which two cops hunt down a mass murderer, is really exciting and refreshingly different. Catch the Killer will soon be released in home cinemas for the first time
In this extraordinary thriller, two sci-fi stars of all people take on the investigation to put a stop to a brutal mass murderer. We know Shailene Woodley from the Divergent series and Ben Mendelsohn from Ready Player One and Rogue One. The successful Argentinian director Damián Szifron makes his English-language debut with Catch the Killer.
Catch the Killer will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on January 19 and can already be pre-ordered now.
This is what Catch the Killer is all about
On New Year’s Eve, a sniper shoots 29 people. The young policewoman Eleanor (Shailene Woodley) seems to be the only one who can empathize with the killer. She is therefore quickly recruited by FBI agent Lammark (Ben Mendelsohn). The race against time begins as the killer unleashes another bloodbath
Catch the Killer – thrilling and frustratingly realistic
Blutmond – Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, Mindhunter – they all have investigators who think their way into the mind of a serial killer. Catch the Killer also adopts this plot with the mentally unstable Eleanor. But this thriller also includes another component, which is both thrilling and frustrating in equal measure
Because Catch the Killer focuses more on police work, which is full of pitfalls. It’s about statistics, bureaucracy, influencing career paths and so the cops often get in their own way. The narrative structure focuses less on the crimes and more on the multi-layered characters. Thanks to the acting performances of Woodley and Mendelsohn, viewers are drawn deep into the story.
