Travis Fimmel is back and his new series starts today on Netflix. Like Vikings, it is based on true events – and his role as a drug dealer is not dissimilar either.
Travis Fimmel’s most popular role is definitely Ragnar Lodbrok in Vikings. He left the popular historical series seven years ago and since then, German Netflix users have not been able to catch up with him on the streamer. That changes today, because Boy Swallows Universe with Travis Fimmel will be available on Netflix from January 11th
This is what the new Travis Fimmel series on Netflix is about
Like Vikings, Boy Swallows Universe is also based on true events. This time, however, it’s not about epic Vikings and their raids. It’s about a young boy and his dysfunctional family. Boy Swallows Universe is the film adaptation of the semi-autobiographical bestseller of the same name* by Trent Dalton.
Travis Fimmel plays the criminal stepfather Lyle, who was an important part of Trent Dalton’s real childhood. He already filled the role of the ambivalent father figure with a sense of family and a good dose of ruthlessness very well as Ragnar in Vikings.
The mini-series is set in 1983 in Brisbane, Australia. The story centers on 11-year-old boy Eli and his dysfunctional family, which has fallen on hard times. His mother is a drug addict, his father is absent and his older brother doesn’t speak a word. When Lyle comes into their lives, things change: he helps the mother get clean, but the two also keep their heads above water with drug deals.
The trailer for Boy Swallows Universe pushes the pain threshold:
When Lyle disappears one day after recklessly getting involved with a drug cartel, Eli wants to find out the truth.
Trent Dalton’s (step)parents actually sold heroin when he was a child and both spent time in prison for it. He deals with his experiences in his book. Now you can also watch it as a series with Travis Fimmel on Netflix
