Back then, it starred cinema legend Toshirō Mifune (The Seven Samurai), whose role in the new version is played by John Wick 4 star Hiroyuki Sanada. The new edition was produced by US broadcaster FX as a multilingual 10-part series that was in development for over 5 years.

In the story of Shogun, the English navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and his crew from the Dutch merchant ship Erasmus are stranded on the coast of Japan and promptly become prisoners. Fortunately, he has valuable knowledge that can be of use to Prince Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) in the conflict with the Council of Regents.
As John rises in the daimyo’s favor and gets closer to the mysterious translator Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), he finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy of power-hungry feudal lords as well as scheming Portuguese and Jesuits. A “war is inevitable”. That’s the promise of the new trailer, which is not stingy with sex, blood, violence and epic battle scenes.
