We love him for his wacky, crazy roles and as a pirate. But Johnny Depp can do so much more than that. In today’s streaming tip, he proves this particularly impressively – alongside a whole armada of stunning performers
Seduction by looks, seduction by touch and seduction by delicacies. We could actually be talking here about Juliette Binoche’s new, absolutely delicious gourmet romance Beloved Cook. But over 20 years ago, together with an unexpectedly sensitive Johnny Depp, she already proved how much fine food can sweeten a love story. But hardly anyone talks about it today.
Chocolat’s recipe is simple but ingenious: food brings people together. It can open hearts, soften souls and banish bitterness. Humanity, tolerance and great love: all this fits into a small chocolaterie. But only thanks to Johnny Depp, a brilliant Juliette Binoche and an outstanding cast. You can stream this treat for free until February 29, 2024 in the ARD Mediathek.
Chocolat in the ARD Mediathek lets Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche save each other and an entire village
Vianne (Juliette Binoche) and her young daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol) never really stay in one place for long. They let themselves drift with the wind. And one gray day in 1959, it carries them to a sleepy little village in the south of France. People there are preparing for Lent. And Vianne has brought sin with her – at least that’s how the conservative mayor (Alfred Molina) sees it.
All she wants to do is make and sell chocolate. But this temptation has no place at all in this village during Lent. Soon, however, people are secretly coming to Vianne because she is not only good at chocolate, but above all at people. She sees through everyone and recognizes what they really need. But she also uncovers unsightly secrets.
All this brings Vianne even more into disrepute. And then there is an encounter that puts a match to the powder keg that the town has become. Vagabonds moor up on the banks of the local river. Among them is the clever, charming Roux (Johnny Depp), who soon takes a shine to Vianne. And suddenly she finds herself at the center of several conflicts and must finally come to terms with herself.
