For his latest film Asteroid City, Anderson has also brought together a whole host of A-list actors, including Scarlett Johansson, to turn his eccentric visions into reality. What it’s about: Asteroid City is told on multiple levels. The framework story is a TV show in which a presenter (Bryan Cranston) talks about the play Asteroid City. The play was written by the fictional author Conrad Earp (Edward Norton). The story of the play’s creation is shown one narrative level below.
The play itself is presented in bright colors that, together with the backdrop, make the 1950s tangible. In it, war photojournalist Augie Steenbeck (Jason Schwartzmann) and the famous actress Midge Campbell (Scarlett Johansson) meet. Both are in Asteroid City for a Junior Stargazer convention that their children are attending.
The city owes its name to a meteorite that fell to earth at this location. When an alien spaceship appears over the crater during the congress, things quickly spiral out of control.

The combination of Anderson’s deadpan humor and his colorful and symmetrical images is particularly effective in Asteroid City. After all, the backdrop was cobbled together especially for the film near Madrid.
