After its release a few weeks ago, Reindeer Baby remained at the top of Netflix’s series top 10 for a long time. Now the polarizing stalking drama has been displaced by a recent release. The new number 1 in the charts is the Spanish true crime thriller series The Asunta Case

The story of the series revolves around the married couple Rosario Porto (Candela Peña) and Alfonso Basterra (Tristán Ulloa), who report the disappearance of their adopted daughter Asunta in 2013. Hours later, the girl’s body is found. After an initial police investigation, the parents themselves come under suspicion of being responsible for the murder. The case goes to trial.

The Asunta case is based on a true story
The plot of the Spanish Netflix series is a true crime story and is therefore based on a true story. In 2013, the body of twelve-year-old Asunta was found on the side of the road in Santiago (Spain). Forensic experts subsequently established that the girl had been given at least 27 lorazepam pills and that she had died of asphyxiation.

In the real case, there was also a court hearing at the time in which the parents were charged with the murder of their own adopted daughter. The incident was covered by all the country’s media.
