Henry Cavill is no longer returning to the DC universe as Superman. Instead, Netflix star David Corenswet is taking over the iconic role. The first image is now available
Directed by Guardians of the Galaxy mastermind James Gunn, a new Superman film is currently being made that has nothing to do with the Man of Steel’s previous big-screen adventures. Instead, we are getting to know a completely new version of the DC icon. It will be played by the still relatively unknown David Corenswet.
Now we have the first picture of Corenswet as Superman
First picture of David Corenswet as Superman: The Henry Cavill successor looks very tired
The first picture of Corenswet’s Superman is quite surprising. No beaming hero who enthusiastically saves the world. Instead, the new Superman looks dejected and exhausted. Corenswet is sitting in an armchair on one of the upper floors of a high-rise building. In the background we see the skyline of Metropolis.
The purple energy sphere that is bombarding the city looks particularly menacing. This Superman seems to have already fought a few battles. No wonder his gaze is downcast as he pulls on his boots. No respite for the man of steel
We can look forward to seeing how this image fits into the finished film. Last but not least, it has a special task to accomplish: Superman, as the simple title suggests, lays the foundation for the new DC universe on the big screen. This was created by James Gunn in collaboration with producer Peter Safran.
The DC Extended Universe is officially dead. From now on, a new DC era is dawning. Welcome to the DC Universe! Or DCU for short. It’s teeming with superheroes. In addition to Corenswet, Isabela Merced has already been cast as Hawkgirl, Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner.
