On Netflix, you can now see Hugh Jackman as a hunter of classic monsters in a fantasy adventure that has just turned 20 years old. Do you dare?
The horror-inspired fantasy action adventure Van Helsing turned exactly 20 years old on May 7 this year. Just in time for the anniversary, the film was recently released on Netflix, where it is waiting for you to take a closer look.
The Mummy creator Stephen Sommers is the director behind the project, which features classic Universal monsters such as vampires and werewolves, which are hunted down by Hugh Jackman in the title role.
Fantasy adventure with a horror twist: Van Helsing on Netflix
In 1887, the famous monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing (Jackman) is summoned to Transylvania to bring the Prince of Darkness, Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) himself, around the unholy corner. He receives active support from Carl (David Wenham) and Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), but even as a trio the monster mission could become a problem.

Old Romania has far more supernatural monsters in store. Van Helsing and co. soon have to deal with versions of Frankenstein’s monster, Mr. Hyde, werewolves and other unpleasant creatures. Instead of atmosphere, as in the classic Universal Pictures films from the 1940s, all that counts here is crazy action and a flurry of effects.
