Part 2 of Michael “Bully” Herbig’s Der Schuh des Manitu awaits us in the not-too-distant future. But recently, another German film took up the legend on which the cult film is based
Karl May is a name that generations of Germans associate with Wild West adventures and rides into the sunset. His works, especially all the stories about Winnetou and his blood brother Old Shatterhand, inspired numerous adaptations, from cartoon series to real-life film classics – and a comedy that would in turn shape generations: Der Schuh des Manitu
Not too long now, and Michael “Bully” Herbig’s western comedy gets a belated sequel with Das Kanu des Manitu, continuing the Karl May-inspired series. Just two years ago, however, we received a completely new interpretation of May’s cult figures in a different guise: the children’s adventure film Der junge Häuptling Winnetou. This is now available to stream on Amazon Prime.
Before Der Schuh des Manitu 2: On Amazon, a young Apache has to grow into his role as leader
Winnetou (Mika Ullritz) is only 12 years old. But he is already wondering whether he will one day be able to follow in the footsteps of his father and chieftain Intschu-Tschuna (Mehmet Kurtulus). Both he and his father are aware that the young Apache still has a lot to learn. How can he rise above himself and learn to be a good leader?
An unexpected opportunity presents itself when his tribe is in trouble. Their most important food source, the bison, just don’t seem to want to move into the area this year. The great bison hunt fails to materialize. At the same time, Winnetou meets the orphan Tom Silver (Milo Haaf).
Tom knows what the disappearance of the bison is all about – the notorious outlaw Todd Crow (Anatole Taubman) is involved. Together, Winnetou, his sister Nscho-tschi (Lola Linnéa Padotzke) and Tom set off to save Winnetou’s tribe
