In just a few months, Germany will have its own Harry Potter: the fantasy film Woodwalkers (Part 1) introduces the magical world of shifters in its trailer
After we saw the first short teaser five months ago, Woodwalkers has now released its long trailer and shows what German fantasy is capable of. Like Harry Potter, the film is based on a popular children’s book series and takes us to a magical school in the wilderness where people can turn into animals. It is the beginning of a whole cinema trilogy that will accompany us for years to come.

The Harry Potter alternative from Germany: Woodwalkers shows off its magic in the trailer
The Woodwalkers phenomenon in Germany is explained by over 20 children’s books with a mix of adventure, magic and school that evokes Harry Potter feelings. Although the bestsellers by fantasy author Katja Brandis tell an independent story, they have numerous Hogwarts parallels with a magical boarding school, (transforming) magic, good and bad teachers, friendships and enmities between pupils and an ominous villain.
The first volume Woodwalkers: Carag’s Transformation serves as the basis for the new film: young Carag (Emile Chérif) can switch between two forms: a human boy and a cougar. In order to learn to better control this ability, he is sent to a school for shifters in the American Rocky Mountains, Clearwater High.
While the wolfish shapeshifter Jeffrey immediately sets his sights on him as a rival, Carag also makes good friends such as the bison boy Brandon and the red squirrel girl Holly. But what plans does the mysterious Andrew Milling (Oliver Masucci) have for Carag when he tells him that he has to choose between carnivores and herbivores?
When will the fantasy film Woodwalkers be released in cinemas?
Woodwalkers will be released in German cinemas on October 24, 2024. The film is the prelude to an entire fantasy trilogy: Woodwalkers 2 is scheduled for release on October 23, 2025 and Woodwalkers 3 on October 1, 2026
