Six years have passed since Alfonso Cuarón delivered the masterful Roma to Netflix. Before that, he directed the breathtaking survival thriller Gravity and the dystopian sci-fi epic Children of Men, not to mention the best part of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
In recent years, however, it has become surprisingly quiet around the Mexican filmmaker. Did Roma tell him everything he still had to say as an artist? Where is the next stroke of genius from the gifted director, who has been captivating us with stunning plan sequences for three decades?

Don’t worry: we have not lost Cuarón as a cinematic force. Just a few weeks ago, he was a guest at the Venice Film Festival and presented his latest work. It is the miniseries Disclaimer, which was created under the umbrella of Apple TV+. Now there is a comprehensive insight into the project.

Disclaimer is based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, which Cuarón adapted into seven episodes with a total running time of almost six hours. It tells the story of investigative journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett), who has already won many awards for her work.
Catherine uncovers other people’s lies – and she is very successful at it. But suddenly she herself is the target of serious accusations, which arrive in her letterbox in the form of a novel. The author is unknown, but he knows a great deal about Catherine’s past and lays it out in detail in his book.
Before Catherine knows it, her once-orderly and successful life is turned upside down. She sees the relationship with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and her son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee) in jeopardy. Now she is trying to find out who is behind the novel that reveals her flaws.
Judging from the trailer, we can expect a gripping psychological thriller full of human abysses, with some really powerful images. Cuarón, who wrote and directed all the episodes, works here with two magnificent cameramen: Emmanuel Lubezki (The Tree of Life) and Bruno Delbonnel (Inside Llewyn Davis).
