On Netflix, you can stream a fantasy blockbuster that was released in cinemas in March. It’s already dangerously close to the top of the streamer’s charts.
The Ghostbusters series has been an absolute cult favorite since the first film in 1984. In 2021, the fantasy franchise was brought back with a soft reboot in which the original stars like Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd only appeared in small roles.
This year saw the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the sequel in which the old and new ghostbusters team up for a dicey adventure. Seven months after its theatrical release, the latest Ghostbusters installment is already on Netflix, where it currently ranks third in the streamer’s top 10 films.

In the fifth part of the cult series, Grooberson (Paul Rudd) and his family (Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace & Finn Wolfhard) face a particularly powerful opponent who leads an entire army of ghosts and covers New York City with a thick layer of ice. Finally, the old ghost hunter team around Bill Murray & Co. comes to the rescue.

With a budget of $100 million, the new Ghostbusters movie grossed around $200 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. However, the future of the series is uncertain. So far, the studio has not commissioned a sequel. Nevertheless, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is ranked as the 15th highest-grossing film of 2024, making it one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
