Stranger Things star and Willem Dafoe in fantasy trailer with the cutest movie monster since Gremlins

A24 presents a fantasy adventure with a cute monster after a three-year wait. Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and Willem Dafoe can be seen in the trailer.

The A24 fantasy film The Legend of Ochi was already shot in 2021 and has been in the works for much longer. It is the first full-length project by music video director Isaiah Saxon, who has been presenting concept art on his website for many years. With an impressive trailer, Ochi and company are now announcing themselves for the coming year to the sounds of Kate Bush. But see and hear for yourself:

The Legend of Ochi: A cute fantasy adventure from A24

In The Legend of Ochi, Yuri (Helena Zengel), a girl from an island in the Black Sea, runs away from home and meets a cute monster. But while she learns to communicate with the little rascal, everyone else considers the Gremlin-meets-Baby-Yoda hybrid to be extremely dangerous and hunts its kind. Can Yuri protect her new friend?

Also starring in the film are Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Emily Watson (Chernobyl) and A24 regular Willem Dafoe (Poor Things).

Similarities to films like Okja are obvious. But the concept art also reveals surprising visual parallels to the video game The Legend of Zelda:

The title of the fantasy adventure is also an obvious allusion. However, it is not yet known whether there is a connection that goes beyond mere homage.

When is The Legend of Ochi coming to the cinema?

While the trailer for the fantasy adventure doesn’t mention a specific release date, Collider reports that the film is scheduled to hit US cinemas on February 28, 2025. A local release date is not yet known.
