10,000 years before Dune worm rider Paul Atreides, the sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit in Dune: Prophecy is already forging plans for the sci-fi savior. Here is the trailer.

The sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, which has been in production for five years, is finally announcing itself with a detailed trailer and a specific start date. According to this, the prophesied prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune film series is scheduled to come out of the program floor on November 17, 2024 on the US channel HBO.

In Germany, the series is at home on Sky and the associated streamer WOW.

Dune: Prophecy is about the sci-fi machinations of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood

When Dune says “prequel,” the emphasis is on the “pre-” because the series from the science fiction world created by Frank Herbert takes place a whopping 10,000 years before Paul Atreides and Chani. At that time, the conspiratorial sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit begins to manipulate the bloodlines of the great noble houses in order to produce the superbeing Kwisatz Haderach in the distant future.

The focus is on the two Harkonnen sisters, Vilya and Tula, played by Emily Watson (Chernobyl) and Olivia Williams (The Crown). But Mark Strong, Vikings star Travis Fimmel, Indian superstar Tabu and many more are also on board the Dune series.

Why has the Dune series taken so long?

The adaptation of the novel Dune by Frank Herbert’s son Brian Herbert proved to be a bumpy ride with a lot of sand in the works. After several personnel changes behind the scenes and some realignments, sci-fi veteran Alison Schapker (Fringe, Altered Carbon) is now showrunner for the series.

Filming of Dune: Prophecy took place in Budapest with a mostly British cast, so at least no further delays were caused by the 2023 Hollywood strike.
