Actually, a fantasy final season had already been ordered for the Amazon series Good Omens. However, these plans have now been abandoned following serious accusations against the showrunner.
Last December, Amazon ordered a third season of its biblical mythology-inspired fantasy series Good Omens. The return of David Tennant and Michael Sheen as demon Crowley and angel Erziraphael is still planned – but in an extremely slimmed-down form.
The reason for this is the serious allegations of sexual violence that have been circulating for several months against showrunner and original author Neil Gaiman.
Amazon announces 90-minute fantasy finale for Good Omens – as a consolation prize instead of season 3
In early 2025, Tennant and Sheen are to return to the cameras in Scotland for a feature-length special to bring their series Good Omens to a rousing conclusion. According to Deadline, Gaiman was still involved in the development of the final chapter, but will no longer be part of the production under the Blank Corporation banner. A replacement author is currently being sought.
Gaiman officially withdrew from the Good Omens production back in September of this year. The reason: in the summer, the British news site Tortoise Media reported on two women who said they had experienced sexual violence at the hands of the fantasy author. Further alleged victims came forward in the wake of these revelations, which also brought production on the Disney project The Graveyard Book to a halt.
Co-showrunner and director Douglas Mackinnon had already stepped down from the project in October 2023. So the Good Omens finale would have felt a little different from the first two seasons either way, when it returns to Amazon for the apocalyptic rest.
