A sci-fi success that finally gave fans the creeps in space again this summer is getting a sequel. The first plot details for Alien: Romulus 2 are promising.

Alien: Romulus delighted many a sci-fi and horror fan at the cinema this summer. Director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead) achieved what many thought was impossible: the revival of a faltering film series at Disney. The success of the prequel has now also been reflected in the announcement of the sequel Alien: Romulus 2, in which not only the iconic slobbering space monster returns.

Alien: Romulus 2 is coming – and there are even concrete plot ideas for the sci-fi horror sequel

Box Office Mojo currently reports worldwide revenues of 350 million US dollars for Alien: Romulus. Not bad for a film that, according to Forbes, cost 80 million and was almost only released on streaming services. The extraterrestrial return was well received by the audience: the Alien spin-off currently ranks first among this year’s sci-fi horror films on Moviepilot.

Amid breathless suspense, borderline disgusting scenes and a film title with hidden meaning, viewers of Alien: Romulus were able to follow the story of Rain (Cailee Spaeny), her android Andy (David Jonsson) and their other friends Tyler (Archie Renaux), Kay (Isabela Merced) and co.

The group of young people secretly travels to an abandoned space station in the orbit of their mining planet to steal material there for profit. However, their hopes for a better future are threatened by an alien infestation on board. The hope for Alien: Romulus 2, on the other hand, now looks good.

Spoiler alerts for part 1!

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell revealed how things will continue after Alien: Romulus.

We’re working on a sequel idea right now. We haven’t closed on the deal with Fede Álvarez yet, but we will soon. He has an idea that we’re working on right now. The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the movie. So we’re thinking, ‘Wow, where do you want to see them next?’ We already know there will be aliens. We know there will be great horror sets. But I fell in love with the two and want to see more of their story.

Director Fede Alvarez recently stated that his Alien sequel doesn’t have to come anytime soon, since seven years also passed between parts 1 and 2. Before that, fans of the sci-fi series will travel elsewhere in the Alien franchise next year anyway: Noah Hawley’s (Legion) series spin-off Alien: Earth is set on Earth.
