Tom Hanks has revealed his favorite films. In addition to an absolute classic, there was also a rather atypical film about World War II.
Tom Hanks made one of the most important anti-war films with Saving Private Ryan. But this is not even one of his own favorites. In an interview with Letterboxd, Hanks revealed his four absolute favorite films. The off-the-cuff decision was not easy for him at first, but in the end he was very convinced by his answers. His second-place pick, the drama The Best Years of Our Lives, was particularly surprising.
The Best Years of Our Lives is Tom Hanks’ favorite World War II movie.
This is what it’s about: Three veterans of the Second World War return home. However, hope and joy at their return are quickly dampened. Captain Fred Derry (Dana Andrews) finds himself in a broken marriage with his wife Marie (Virgina Mayo) and Al Stephenson (Fredric March) was away from home for so long that his children grew up without him. He is now a stranger to them.
Homer Parrish (Harold Russell), who lost both hands in the war and is now returning to civilian life with prosthetic arms, has also been hit hard. All three have to rebuild their lives while coming to terms with their past in the war.

The Green Berets is a film about World War II that takes place outside of the war. Rather, it looks at the soldiers after the fighting.
It has absolutely nothing to do with World War II, except that it is all about World War II.
Tom Hanks considers it the best film on the subject because it not only shows what the soldiers went through, even after the war, but because it is timeless and remains relevant today.
