German sci-fi inspired by Black Mirror? Retro AI delivers cyber-horror in Netflix teaser

In the German sci-fi project Cassandra from Netflix, an old smart home from the 70s is reactivated. With devastating consequences for the family that has just moved in.

It sounds like the concept for an episode of the dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror, but it is a German miniseries project that is also hosted on Netflix. In Cassandra, by screenwriter and director Benjamin Gutsche (Arthurs Gesetz), a family is terrorized by their retro smart home, whose AI makes an unnecessarily ominous statement in the teaser announcement:

The time travel drama Dark is the most impressive example to date of German sci-fi that can also work internationally on Netflix.

Cassandra: German sci-fi dystopia from Netflix

In the six-part miniseries, Samira (Mina Tander) and her family move into a house that has been empty for 50 years. When they move in, the electronic household assistant Cassandra (Lavina Wilson), who was developed in the 1970s and has a correspondingly outdated world view, also activates. She can be helpful, but she also has very precise ideas about how things should be done and does not tolerate any mistakes.

Of course, it doesn’t take long for the situation to turn into a dystopian AI nightmare. People who have had dealings with artificial intelligences like HAL9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey or GLaDOS from the Portal video games can tell you a thing or two about it.

Further roles are played by Michael Klammer, Franz Hartwig, Mary Tölle, Joshua Kantara, Elias Grünthal and Filip Schnack in the Rat Pack Filmproduktion production.
