Netflix is deleting an entire movie and series section on December 1 – only these 4 titles will be spared

In the last month of the year, Netflix is radically cleaning up a particular genre. The special technology of the films and series is said to have not proven itself for the streamer.

Years ago, Netflix introduced a special type of film and series on its streaming platform: interactive titles. In productions like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, viewers are allowed to decide for themselves at certain points which direction the story should take. Various courses and endings are pre-programmed for this.

However, the feature does not seem to have caught on for Netflix. Soon, the provider will radically clean up the genre, leaving only a few titles.

Netflix is removing almost all interactive films and series from its streaming program

As The Verge reports, the streamer will remove a whopping 20 of 24 interactive titles from its own offering on December 1, 2024. After that, only the following four films and series with interactive functionality will remain:

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. the Reverend
Ranveer Singh Against the Wild with Bear Grylls
You vs. the Wild – The Movie

According to The Verge, Netflix publicist Chrissy Kelleher is reported to have said the following about the decision:

The technology has served its purpose, but will now be restricted as we focus on technological efforts in other areas.

The feature has probably turned out to be a casual gimmick for Netflix that is used by too few people. In addition to movies and series, the streaming service has been trying its hand at gaming for quite some time. It remains to be seen whether this sector will be lucrative for Netflix in the long term.
