In the sequel, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) continues to serve time in Arkham Asylum after his murderous act in the previous film. An unpredictable love affair develops between the two.

Joker 2 is radically different from part 1 and was a flop

With a huge budget of 200 million dollars, the Joker sequel is nevertheless much smaller and more reduced. The only locations that can be seen are the interior of Arkham Asylum and a courtroom where Arthur is tried in the second half.

Joker 2: Folie à Deux seems more like a stubborn reaction to the hype surrounding the first part, after which the main character was almost heroically idolized by many fans. The sequel, which Todd Phillips has also realized with musical sequences, reduces the Batman villain to Arthur’s human side and tramples the Joker myth underfoot.

This approach did not pay off at the box office. Worldwide, Joker 2 only managed to recoup a little more than its own budget, making the superhero blockbuster a flop.
