After more than two years of waiting, the Japanese Netflix death game series Alice in Borderland finally continues next year. Season 3 is the wild card season.
Fans of the Japanese thriller series Alice in Borderland know how to be patient. There were two whole years between the first two seasons and it’s been even longer for season 3. But next year, the sci-fi death games in the playing card world will finally continue.
As What’s on Netflix reported from the showcase event in Los Angeles, the Joker season of Alice in Borderland is coming our way in 2025.
Alice in Borderland season 3: What’s coming to Netflix in 2025
The live-action adaptation of Haro Aso’s manga begins with gamer Ryohei Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and his friends being transported to a deserted Tokyo. In a bizarre parallel world, they must take part in deadly games to avoid being eliminated from life and perhaps even to regain their way back to the real world. To do so, the participants must win all the cards from a deck of cards, with each of them representing one of the games.
Spoiler alert for the second season finale of Alice in Borderland: In the end, the participants know that each of them represents a picture card and that they are in the same hospital as survivors of a meteor strike. Arisu, Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) and the others are given the choice of staying in the game world or waking up from a coma in reality, which they do after the last game. This is similar to the end of the manga, but then an ominous wild card is suddenly shown.
As ScreenRant recently explained, the wild card has a completely different meaning in the manga story and played a role in the story much earlier. It is much more likely that it serves as a set-up for a version of the spin-off manga Alice in Borderland: Retry in the series version. In this sequel, Arisu and Usagi are expecting a child together years later when he ends up in the Borderland again after an accident.
