At number one on Netflix: a new film is currently topping the Netflix charts almost every day. Now a horror thriller that was only released in cinemas six months ago has made it to the top.

The last pumpkins from Halloween are still shrivelling up, while gingerbread and Christmas stollen are already filling the shelves. The season between Halloween and Christmas is also currently reflected in the movie tastes of Netflix subscribers. That’s because the top 10 is currently dominated by horror shockers and Christmas rom-coms.

The horror movie Tarot has now been added to the list. It has been available on Netflix’s streaming service since November 18, just six months after its theatrical release. And it promptly made it to number 1 on the Netflix charts.

At the time of this writing, this is the German top 10 Netflix movies:

Platz 1: Tarot
Platz 2: The Hunt
Platz 3: Hot Frosty
Platz 4: Meet Me Next Christmas
Platz 5: Ready or Not
Platz 6: The Lost Children
Platz 7: Alita: Battle Angel
Platz 8: Sisu
9. Christmas Ball in Wonderland
10. A Recipe for Love

The story of the horror film is based on a novel – and a real game

As the title suggests, the eponymous card game is at the center of Tarot, whose origins date back (at least) to the 15th century – and which has been used for fortune telling since the 18th century. And in this case, a deck of tarot cards delivers prophecies of death that cost the lives of a group of friends one after the other in the best Final Destination manner.

It is interesting to note that the horror film was only given its Tarot title shortly before its release and was originally named after its 1992 novel Horrorscope. The cast of young tarot card victims includes Harriet Slater (Pennyworth), Avantika (Mean Girls) and Jacob Batalon (Ned from the Spider-Man films).

Tarot has an average rating of 4.9 points in the Moviepilot community. The fact that the film does not promise a great horror highlight is also reflected at Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, where the film only gets ratings of 17% and 4.8 points.
